And with all apologies for a lack of posters over the last few days (STVT has been taking something of a brief semester), see as we blaze back with a headline worthy of all that have gone before - and a story likely to excite and delight you. Knightrider’s coming back! The fine news, which we originally spotted on TV Squad and has generated some interested, yet slightly concerned discussion all over Digital Spy - could see the show returning to our screens.
The news, which confirms that NBC has given the OK for a TV movie pilot for a new, updated Knight Rider, to be directed (possibly) by Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith) - is good news for all those talking automobiles out there, but is likely to be created sans Hoff, the booze-troubled former superstar probably with more pressing concerns on his mind.
Other rumours have seen fake pics of the new KITT flooding the internet, and suggestions that Orlando Bloom may become involved as Michael’s son - all denied by the shows creators.
More news here as it happens…
It happens – and although most STVT readers may be surprised to learn such things, it is true to say that there are some people out there who are still yet to feast there eyes on the majesty that is 24! And for those televisually starved types (and those of us who would just love to go back to where it all started), good news is forthcoming from the inner sanctum of FX – who are showing Day 1 all over again!
Starting on the 5th October (which is exciting enough for Keifer fans), for those with nothing to do at the weekend, why not tune in as the clock chimes in Saturday 30th September and watch in delight as the good folks at aforementioned channel continue to play every single episode back to back. Yes – all 24 of them!
While we at STVT are not entirely sure we can cope with the full marathon, it must be worth a go damnit! After all, if Sir Bauer continually saves the world episode after episode, the least we can do is cast an appreciative eye now and then. We have got some serious sleep to catch up before Saturday mind…
UKTV Drama are just coming to the end of a repeat run of the first series of 80s classic TV show Tenko, and it’s being enjoyed very much by some of the posters over at Digital Spy. ‘Tenko’ is Japanese for ‘Roll call’ where prisoners had to acknowledge their name and bow to their masters and provided a clue as to the main subject of the show; a group of British, Dutch and Australian women who were captured after the fall of Singapore and held prisoner in Japanese prison of war camps. Apart from the first two episodes, Dorset doubled as Singapore for the cast and crew due to the relatively low filming budget.
The show was created by Lavinia Ward whilst researching the history of a This Is Your Life subject who was interned in a Japanese POW camp and thought it would make for an interesting and dramatic TV show. Series one featured former Doctor Who actress Louise Jameson as Londoner Blanche Simmons, Stephanie Beacham of Dynasty and Bad Girls fame as Rose Millar amongst many other talented actresses in the ensemble cast.
The story centred around the women’s’ attempts to survive the harsh conditions of the internment camps while tensions were high between the women themselves, particularly the British and Dutch, as the latter could bring more possessions to the camp.
The show ran for three series (1981-1984) and a reunion special (1985) and is highly regarded for it’s compelling and bold story telling combined with excellent performances from the lead actresses. Catch Tenko every day on UKTV Drama and see for yourself how it remains a fascinating watch 25 years on.
UK fans of Prison Break are gearing up for the season 3 premiere on Digital Spy with an excellent and informative thread which collates such useful things as a trailer from Sky One, photos and even the first 17 minutes of episode one. The broadcast date for the first episode is 24th September on Sky One, a mere week after the US screening; a move that gets thumbs up from all involved, including ‘_hunni_bunni’: “I think it’s better that Sky One have it now, it kind of ruined season 2 for me a bit as I’d end up finding out what’s happened ages in advance from the US shows.” There’s also confusion as to the appearance of Sarah Wayne Callies, will she or won’t she? Time will tell, but make sure you don’t miss the season premiere Orientation.
Word has reached us of potentially disturbing news for fans of Battlestar Galactica waiting to see the final series of season 4 in it’s entirety- the wait may be longer than first assumed. SyFy Portal are reporting that season 4 may be split asunder in to 2 seasons of 10 episodes, rather than 1 season of 20 episodes.
The news broke when Jamie Bamber, who plays Lee Adama, appeared at Dragon*Con to speak to fans, and told them that the Sci Fi Channel was considering dividing season four in to two, effectively getting two seasons for the price of one. An attendee known only as Jedi X (We imagine he is probably the coolest member of his friends group) told Ain’t It Cool news site “”The actors actually ripped SciFi, with Bamber saying that the channel is not used to producing high-quality material and now that it has a hit, it doesn’t know what to do with it” Was it for real though? Could it have been a practical joke? Other attendees think it may have been, but Jedi X won’t be contradicted: “a lot of people laughed and thought it was a joke and that they were ripping SciFi, but then Bamber said, ‘No, really. That’s the plan right now,’ and then the audience groaned. So he may have been adding to the ‘joke,’ but that was not the impression I got.”
So in conclusion- rather like a game of Chinese Whispers. Fingers crossed that it won’t come true, but when we hear more information either way we’ll let you know.
Hearty congratulations to Lost star Terry O’Quinn, who became one of the latest in a long line of acting dignitaries to be entered into the Emmy hall of fame last night, at a star-studded bash in LA. Edging out a number of well-fancied candidates, including Michael Imerioli who plays a sociopathic mob lieutenant in The Sopranos, O’Quinn, who plays heroic John Locke in the popular Sky One drama, was unsurprisingly delighted.
But reaction on popular forum Digital Spy has been somewhat mixed, and while some have offered their hearty congratulations, others are a little more skeptical of Terry’s acting ability. “I like the character as a bit of comic relief, but he doesn’t exactly have a great deal of range” says ‘Mates?’, although ‘bibblebabble’ disagrees, stating “I am pleased O’Quinn has one an award he’s is a very underrated actor.”
Well – as big fans of Lost here on STVT, it won’t surprise you that we fall firmly in the latter category – and suggest that O’Quinn deserves an Emmy as much as the next man (especially if the next man happens to be Michael Emerson). Well done sir, well done!
So do we – and it is with some excitement that we can reveal that Sky’s ‘introduce a friend’ programme that we featured way back in the sunny days of May 2007 has just got better. You may remember cashing in on £30 worth of M&S vouchers all those months ago just for recommending a chum, and it is with a golden gleam in our eye and a bulge in our wallets that we are pleased to relay the news that the amount on offer these days is up to a jaw-dropping fifty sheets… For both of you!
That’s fifty pounds (via the medium of Marks and Spencer vouchers) for you and your friend, and there’s no limit of people you can recommend. So, like all of us at STVT who have been furiously dusting down those old address books and finding an excuse to contact all those old relatives again, this could just be the golden freebie that pay’s for Christmas!
But be warned that the promotion is only going to run until the end (30th) of September, so don’t leave it too long. And just an addendum for those cynically muttering that it sounds too good to be true, in true heroic style, STVT have scoured the T’s & C’s - and the only real pre-requisite is that you have to be a current customer of Sky. Not bad eh!
Just head to www.sky.com/friend and sign up!
Oh - and anyone wondering about the image may not be surprised to learn that it depicts the proud award winners of the 2004 award for ‘Ohio Friends of the Year’. Congratulations chaps!
1-0 Scotland and the wrong first goalscorer… But what a result! And did anyone catch the Wales game on Sky Sports as well - what a good night (on the whole) for British football.
OK, so while the majority of english eyes will be focussed on the big game between our majestic Lions and those vodka-swilling types from over the Baltic Sea, another game of no less stature in world football (and promising to be a damn sight more entertaing than watching Mclaren inevitably lose a grim tactical battle to the superior-minded Gus Hiddink) is taking place just across the channel. For amidst a swathe of gallic pride and scottish heart, two group-topping veterans of world football do battle for the right to (good as) qualify for Euro 2008. Missing through injury is the illustrious Thierry Henry, but will the French miss the va-va-voom of the goal hungry striker - meanwhile , can Alex Mcleish inspire his boys to a famous victory?
Who dares to dream - but it’s all live on Sky Sports 1 from 19.30!
STVT prediction: 1-1 with Garry O’ Connor to net the first goal.
Oh - and Czech Republic Vs. Rep. of Ireland is on Sky Sports 2 as well, which also could be quite an encounter!

Every now and then, someone brings up an old classic comedy or drama in the forums and its enough to make all at STVT go a little bit dewy eyed and look back to the late 80s, early 90s, or whenever it was, in a haze of nostalgic happiness. Well such a show has surfaced once more, and would you believe it…. It’s wholesome family romp King of Queens – the comedy famous for things going wrong with ‘hilarious consequences’.
Currently showing series 12 on Paramount Comedy and stuffing you full of at least two, if not four, episodes every single day. Join wayward Doug (Kevin James) and bossy Carrie (Leah Remini) as they bicker over anything and everything, from watching sports on TV, to the awkward presence of Carrie’s difficult father in the household basement.
Now at the end of its 207 episode run, after running since 1998 – shed a tear dear reader, but know that the extraordinary popularity of the programme which ensure that those reruns keep coming and coming.
